PVC/Vinyl & Nylon Coated Cable Information:

• Plastic coating applied to exterior of aircraft cable
• Nylon is a harder coating than PVC/Vinyl 
• PVC/Vinyl is better for outdoor applications with direct sunlight
• PVC/Vinyl is more cost effective than Nylon
• PVC/Vinyl is for general multi-purpose use
• Nylon is used in fitness equipment applications, normally with pulleys and high cycling
• Nylon is used in rough applications where rubbing and sharp edges can come in contact with the coated cable
• Plastic coating can provide protection against corrosion and in some cases reduce wear of the rope and other rigging components
• Plastic coated aircraft cable can be difficult to inspect
• Nominal strengths for plastic-coated aircraft cable are based on the diameter and grade prior to coating

Black Powdercoat Aircraft Cables

Additional Coating Information:

A vinyl coating maintains its flexibility in most outdoor environments due to excellent UV protection and flexibility in cold weather. It is also cheaper than a nylon coating. 

Applications:

• General purpose
• Sailing
• Security
• Towing
• Outdoors (sunny or cold environments)

A nylon coating is ideal for indoor cycle applications such as pulleys. Its rigidity resists gouges. While nylon coated cable performs poorly in the sun it has good chemical resistance.

Applications:

• Pulleys (exercise equipment, conveyer pulleys, etc.)
• Acidic environments (sewers, wells, etc.)
• Indoors (minimal sun light)
