SPELTER SOCKETS

Lexco® Cable offers spelter fittings for wire rope and aircraft cable end terminations. Our spelter sockets are manufactured using superior resins to ensure a sturdy, reliable hold. Due to the impracticality of field application, our spelter fittings are sold almost exclusively as part of a larger wire rope or cable assembly—please speak to your Lexco sales representative for more information.

Please specify if you require your spelter socket assembly to be proof-loaded. Proof-loading spelter sockets is recommended for critical applications such as overhead lifting and structural.

Various spelter socket sizes and styles are available for a range of applications.

Spelter sockets are wire rope end fittings used to create strong, permanent terminations for wire rope and aircraft cable assemblies. These fittings are commonly used in demanding applications where a reliable socketed cable end is needed, including lifting, structural, bridge, industrial, and anchoring applications.

Lexco Cable offers open strand spelter sockets, open bridge spelter sockets, closed strand spelter sockets, closed bridge spelter sockets, and Type 6, Type 7, and Type 8 anchor sockets. Lexco’s spelter socket assemblies are manufactured using high-quality resins to help create a sturdy, reliable hold. Because field application is often impractical, spelter fittings are typically supplied as part of a larger custom wire rope or cable assembly. Proof-loading is also available and recommended for critical applications such as overhead lifting and structural use.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spelter Sockets

What are spelter sockets used for in wire rope assemblies?2026-08-06T21:08:48+00:00

Spelter sockets are used to create permanent end terminations for wire rope and aircraft cable assemblies. They are commonly used when a cable assembly needs a strong socketed end connection for lifting, structural, bridge, anchoring, industrial, or heavy-duty applications. The socket helps transfer load from the wire rope to the connection point.

What is the difference between open and closed spelter sockets?2026-08-06T21:09:24+00:00

Open spelter sockets have an open end connection, often used where the socket needs to connect with a pin, shackle, or compatible attachment point. Closed spelter sockets have an enclosed eye-style connection. The right choice depends on the attachment method, load requirements, available hardware, and how the wire rope assembly will be installed.

Can spelter sockets be used with aircraft cable?2026-08-06T21:10:05+00:00

Yes. Spelter sockets can be used for wire rope and aircraft cable end terminations when the application requires a permanent socketed fitting. The correct socket style and size depend on the cable diameter, wire rope construction, load requirements, fitting type, and application environment.

Should spelter socket assemblies be proof-loaded?2026-08-06T21:10:40+00:00

Proof-loading is recommended for critical applications such as overhead lifting, structural use, and other applications where assembly performance needs to be verified. When requesting a spelter socket assembly, customers should specify whether proof-loading is required so the assembly can be quoted and produced accordingly.

What information should I provide when requesting a quote for spelter sockets?2026-08-06T21:11:13+00:00

When requesting a quote, provide the wire rope or aircraft cable diameter, cable construction, socket type, required assembly length, load requirements, application environment, and whether proof-loading is needed. If available, include drawings, specifications, photos, or part numbers so Lexco can recommend the right spelter socket or custom wire rope assembly.
