Thimbles, Wire Rope
Thimbles are designed to extend the longevity of wire rope loops by preventing fraying that can occur due to friction at the bearing point. Thimbles must be used in conjunction with either sleeves or wire rope clips in several specifications.
Wire rope thimbles are cable fittings used to protect looped wire rope ends from wear, abrasion, and fraying at the bearing point. When a wire rope or aircraft cable assembly is formed into an eye, the thimble sits inside the loop to help maintain the cable’s bend radius and reduce direct friction against hooks, shackles, eye bolts, and other cable hardware.
Lexco Cable offers plated, galvanized, and stainless steel wire rope thimbles for custom wire rope assemblies, aircraft cable assemblies, rigging applications, industrial cable systems, and general wire rope hardware needs. Thimbles are commonly used with sleeves or wire rope clips to create stronger, longer-lasting loop ends in applications where the cable eye may experience movement, tension, or contact with connecting hardware.
