Swaging is the process of cold pressing a fitting to a cable and requires a significant force, such as a hydraulic press, to form a secure attachment. Swaging provides the best holding strength for all types of end fittings and any given bill of materials.
Alternatively, the process of joining a cable and an end fitting by pinching or staking and thereby attaching them is known as crimping. Crimping can be done using hand tools but is only suitable for a select number of fittings and does not apply the same level of holding strength as a swaged fitting.
Lexco's assembly production department can swage press fittings onto wire ropes through 1” diameter. Using our specialized hydraulic presses and long dies, we're commonly able to swage entire attachments in a single pressing. These tools ensure your swaged fittings are attached securely, efficiently, and with a uniform pressing in a process that is consistent across every one of your cable assembly end fittings.
Swaging also minimizes flash. Flash most commonly occurs when manually crimping end fittings using hand tools and results in an aesthetically unpleasing look and may result in sharp edges. As crimping is best suited for fieldwork, Lexco® has several different hand crimping and hand swaging tools available in our catalog.
In addition to swaged and crimped wire rope fittings, we also provide bungee assembly crimping. Lexco's bungee assembly crimping is done via a process similar to stitching using specially designed tools. We also offer swageless fittings that are convenient for job sites as they require only minimal use of tools.
